Clear answers about Junqi, Si Guo Junqi, Chinese military chess, and playing Chinese army chess online with Junqi Arena.
What is Junqi?
Junqi is a Chinese hidden-information strategy board game whose pieces represent military ranks and special units. Players arrange their armies secretly, move on roads and railways, fight by rank, protect their flags, and try to capture the enemy flags.
What is Si Guo Junqi?
Si Guo Junqi means Four Nations Military Chess. It is the four-player team form of Junqi: two allied pairs sit opposite one another and cooperate to defeat the opposing alliance.
Is Junqi Chinese military chess or Chinese army chess?
Yes. Chinese military chess and Chinese army chess are common English descriptions of Junqi. The game is also known as Jun Qi, Lu Zhan Qi, Luzhanqi, and, for the four-player version, Si Guo Jun Qi.
What is the difference between Junqi and Four Nations Military Chess?
Junqi is the broader game family. Four Nations Military Chess, or Si Guo Junqi, specifically describes the four-player team version played by two opposing alliances. Junqi Arena implements this four-player format.
How do you play Junqi?
Each player secretly arranges an army, then moves pieces across roads and railways. Ranked pieces defeat lower ranks, bombs trade with most attackers, engineers remove mines, and capturing both opposing flags wins the game.
Can I play Junqi online?
Yes. Junqi Arena lets you play Junqi online in a browser. You can practice against bots, use the interactive tutorial, or join multiplayer games with other people.
Is Junqi Arena free to play?
Yes. You can play Junqi (Chinese military chess) online on Junqi Arena for free.
How many players play Si Guo Junqi?
Si Guo Junqi is designed for four players. Opposite players form a team, creating two alliances with two players each.
How do you win Four Nations Military Chess?
An alliance wins by capturing both enemy flags or eliminating both opposing armies. Protecting your own flag while identifying and attacking enemy formations is the central strategic challenge.
What do railways, camps, mines, and bombs do?
Railways allow long movement along clear tracks, and engineers can turn at railway junctions. Camps protect an occupying piece from attack. Mines are stationary defensive pieces, while bombs destroy themselves and the piece they fight.
Is Junqi like Stratego?
Junqi and Stratego are separate strategy games, but both use hidden pieces, military ranks, bluffing, and flag capture. Junqi has its own military piece set, railway movement, camps, mines, bombs, and team rules in the four-player Si Guo Junqi format.
Is Junqi the same as Jungle or Dou Shou Qi?
No. Jungle, also called Dou Shou Qi or 斗兽棋, is a different Chinese strategy board game based on animals, dens, traps, rivers, and an animal rank hierarchy. Junqi is a military chess and uses hidden armies, military ranks, railways, and flags.
